In the National Standards for Family and Consumer Sciences Education, process has been addressed in two ways. One is the Reasoning for Action standard, which is an overarching, process-oriented standard that delineates knowledge and skills for high-quality reasoning. The second is through questions related to thinking, communication, leadership, and management process areas that are provided for each content standard in the 16 Areas of Study. National FCS Teacher Education Standards

The Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher Education Standards are used by professors and teacher educators at colleges and universities with Family and Consumer Sciences Education degree programs. Referenced in these standards are the FCCLA Adviser Professional Standards, developed in partnership with the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA). Together these standards shape the curriculum and instruction for individuals working to develop the knowledge and skills to become highly-qualified FCS teachers and FCCLA advisers.
